Festival Participant: Spring Creek Homesteading Fund

Spring Creek Homesteading Fund was incorporated in 2011 as a nonprofit dedicated to building community self-sufficiency through grants for gardens, urban farms, greenhouses, community kitchens, and through reskilling workshops in the homesteading arts. The Fund’s mission is focused on the Spring Creek Watershed of Central Pennsylvania. To date, more than 25 reskilling workshops on topics ranging from beekeeping to Hugelkultur have been coordinated by The Fund. These workshops have given participants the opportunity to learn new skills in a fun and supportive environment, and the chance to develop an enhanced sense of community. In addition, The Fund has also made a major investment of labor and funds in enhancing local community gardening opportunities. Most recently, we have partnered with the Friends Meeting in State College to refurbish a community garden on their property. Finally, Spring Creek Homesteading Fund works to disseminate information about local sustainability efforts through its blog (http://springcreekhomesteading.wordpress.com/) with the goals of providing knowledge and support to those involved in the work of developing a more sustainable community in central Pennsylvania.
