Transition Town State
College is a local non-profit organization that uses the Transition Towns model
to assess energy needs and resources. We work to develop practices, policies
and technologies that can meet those needs with a minimal impact on the environment
while maintaining, or improving, our quality of life. Through education, activities and dialogue
TTSC works to help people and organizations find ways to reduce their energy
usage and costs, develop ways of living that reduces our carbon footprint, and
support re-localization efforts.
Transition
Towns is a grassroots response. It
requires no funding or red tape. It
thrives on the collective and highly creative intelligence of the
community. It took a considerable genius
to get us where we are and that same ingenuity will get us to a new way of
living. That way of life is not one of
sacrifice and denial but achieving a human scale of life in which we relearn to
relate to each other, to celebrate the cycles of the Earth, to achieve greater
local self-sufficiency, as well as restore dignity and pride in the life of our
community.
Transition Towns State
College (TTSC) is the local community organization working to develop our
capacity to deal with the challenges of environmental, economic, and related
energy issues that we believe will increasingly occupy our attention and
resources. Our group is part of a loosely affiliated worldwide network, founded
several years ago, of over 400 official Transition Towns in 34 countries with
over 100 in the US including a few in Pennsylvania.
